The Argentine summer transfer market will have an unexpected extension: the Argentine Football Association (AFA) will extend the deadline for player registrations by one week. The closing date, originally set for Tuesday, January 20, will now be moved to Tuesday, January 27. According to the Argentine News Agency, the decision is still awaiting formal confirmation, but it is already impacting the planning of the clubs, especially since the transfer book will remain open after the official competition begins: the Apertura Tournament will kick off this Thursday, January 22, meaning the first matchday will be played while negotiations are still underway. Nevertheless, the exception for international transfers will not be modified: the extended deadline until March 21 will remain in place for those clubs that sell or loan players abroad after the local market closes. In this context, the measure represents a relief for Boca Juniors, which is approaching the transfer window urgently with several deals in progress, while for River Plate it could reactivate last-minute movements if a convenient opportunity arises during these extra days.
