Argentine winger Alejandro 'Papu' Gómez has spoken about his future after serving a two-year ban for doping. In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, which was accessed by the Argentine News Agency, he stated that he would like to play for "three or four more years".
The footballer mentioned that he finds it difficult to adapt to a routine, comparing it to being in prison. "I want to enjoy football again... If everything goes well, I would like to play another three or four years," he added.
Gómez lamented that some people "disappeared" during his forced absence, but also highlighted that others, whom he did not expect, remained very close to him. "Sometimes, the bad things that happen to you help you understand who truly wants to be by your side and who doesn't," he emphasized.
The player also expressed gratitude to the fans, who showed him incredible support after the ban, but admitted that the "somewhat false world" of social media tired him out, and he is no longer as active on them.
He revealed that after the sanction, he had fallen into a loop from which he could not escape. "I have to thank my wife, she helped me a lot, especially to understand the path I had to take and the route I had to follow. I couldn't train with my teammates, I couldn't enter a sports center, I couldn't study to be a coach or sporting director," Gómez concluded.
