Argentina to learn World Cup 2026 rivals at Washington draw

The Argentine national team will find out its rivals for the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico during the draw, which will take place at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington.

The 2026 World Cup draw, which will be covered live by the Noticias Argentinas news agency, is scheduled to start at 14:00 Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile time, while for Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru it will be at 12:00, and for Mexico at 11:00.

Argentina, led by Lionel Scaloni and aiming to become the third team to win two consecutive World Cups (previously achieved only by Italy in 1934 and 1938 and Brazil in 1958 and 1962), will be one of the 12 seeded teams. This means it will avoid facing other major powers at least in the group stage.

The 2026 World Cup will feature a new format, as for the first time, 48 teams will participate, divided into 12 groups of four teams each.

The top two teams from each group and the eight best third-place teams will advance to the Round of 16, where the knockout stage will begin until a new world champion is crowned.
