Argentine driver Franco Colapinto (Alpine) will race this weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix, the 23rd round of the Formula 1 championship, where he will seek to score his first points of the season.
Colapinto, who comes off a 15th-place finish after the disqualifications of the McLaren cars of British driver Lando Norris and Australian Oscar Piastri, is having a very difficult season. He has the worst car on the grid and is the only driver, along with Australian Jack Doohan, who has failed to score points (Doohan only competed in the first six Grands Prix of the year).
The only race this season where Colapinto was close to scoring points was at the Dutch Grand Prix, where he finished 11th, although he could have finished even higher if his team, Alpine, had not been slow in giving the order to Frenchman Pierre Gasly to let him pass.
Colapinto, who debuted in the category last year driving for Williams and managed to score five points, also had acceptable performances at the Italian and Canadian Grands Prix, finishing 13th in both. In the remaining races, the Argentine suffered from his own mistakes and also from a lack of competitiveness from Alpine, finishing below 15th place in the other races (15th in Spain, Austria, Brazil, and Las Vegas; 16th in Emilia-Romagna, Singapore, and Mexico; 17th in Monza and Austin; 18th in Hungary; 19th in Belgium and Azerbaijan; while in Great Britain, he failed to start due to problems with his single-seater).
His next challenge will be this weekend in Qatar, at a Grand Prix that will be covered live by the Argentine News Agency (NA).
