Facundo Cambeses has been one of the great revelations of Argentine football in the second half of 2025. With more than enough ability, already amply demonstrated at Banfield, the 28-year-old goalkeeper just needed continuity in Racing's goal to fully explode. Gustavo Costas bet on him and he did not disappoint: in 13 matches as a starter, he has accumulated 11 clean sheets. Since the match against San Lorenzo, the first after taking the position from Gabriel Arias, Cambeses added a first streak of five matches without conceding. The 1-0 loss to River, in the Copa Argentina, cut that promising record and, inevitably, that goal, for which the goalkeeper was not responsible, cost Academia elimination from the tournament. Thanks to his great performances in those matches, including the two against Vélez in the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals, Cambeses not only positioned himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Argentine football but also earned a call-up from Lionel Scaloni for the friendlies the National Team played against Venezuela and Puerto Rico in October. He even had the chance to debut in the 6-0 rout against Puerto Rico, coming on in the second half to replace Dibu Martínez and successfully keeping a clean sheet. Back at Racing, he added another clean sheet against Aldosivi, followed by a major blow against Flamengo in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-final at the Maracanã. This is why, as talks to renew his contract have begun, the coach has already announced that he needs Cambeses to stay at the club next year no matter what. The board knows that in the short term, very important offers will arrive for a goalkeeper who, if he maintains this level, has great chances of being on the final World Cup list. Scaloni knows him very well from all his time in the youth teams and he has already exploded at the Academy. Just as it was with Marvela Martínez a year ago, now all efforts must be focused on the goalkeeper's continuity. With a contract until the end of 2027 and a €15 million release clause, it is not unreasonable to suppose that sooner rather than later there will be talks to improve the goalkeeper's link, who just a couple of months ago was Arias's substitute and is today not only undisputed but also the great figure of the team.
