Platense's president reveals that the championship-winning coaching duo rejected an offer to return, stating the club must move forward despite the departure of its idols.

Platense President: Orsi and Gómez Did Not Want to Return

The president of Platense, Sebastián Ordóñez, confirmed that the champion coaching duo of the last Torneo Apertura, Favio Orsi and Sergio Gómez, “did not want to return” to the club from the Vicente López municipality.

Without a doubt, what Orsi and Gómez did in the first half of the year will go down in the history of Platense and Argentine football. But if you don't get an answer, you have to keep moving forward. We made efforts to bring back two people who left a great legacy and managed the club brilliantly. There is nothing more we can do; the club has to move on,” stated Ordóñez.

The first and only option was and always will be Sergio and Favio, I’m not afraid to say it. To be clear, I’m not trying to create any noise; they are idols of the club and the doors are always open for them. There’s not much to analyze or think about if we want what’s best for Platense,” he added.

Finally, the president emphasized: “I tried to reach out to them. Neither Sebastián during his time as president nor Platense as a club had that opportunity. The issue is resolved, we talk, and we start over.”

His agent (Christian Bragarnik) conveyed to me that it wasn't the right time and they weren't convinced. I didn't get a direct response; the board members tried to establish a direct link but couldn't. We tried other avenues, just in case they had a desire to return and we had a desire to correct and improve what we could. Our club is above any one person,” Ordóñez concluded.

Additionally, Ordóñez stated that his intention is “to review and reconcile past errors” with the duo, but there was “no proposal on the table because they never gave the indication that they wanted to return. We always kept the doors open for them.”

Context: After Platense qualified in the final matchday of the regular phase and eliminated three big teams as visitors, the club won the Primera División championship for the first time on June 1st by defeating Huracán, another historic club of Argentine football, 1-0 in Santiago del Estero. Following this title, the coaching duo resigned, and Platense hired manager Cristián ‘Kily’ González, who had a poor Torneo Clausura, sitting second-to-last, and resigned after a 3-0 loss to Independiente three weeks ago.
