Argentine tennis player Pedro Cachin, ranked 665th in the ATP, announced on Monday his retirement from professional tennis at the age of 30, having not played in an official tournament since last June due to injuries.
In his farewell post on social media, Cachin shared a heartfelt reflection. He wrote that he was 'privileged' to compete in the world's best tournaments and thanked everyone who helped him achieve his dream. He mentioned matches against Rafa Nadal in Madrid, Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, playing for his country in the Davis Cup, and winning an ATP title. Cachin also noted that he does not forget the early stages of his career, when he played 'Futures' in difficult conditions.
'I am leaving with a clear conscience and proud of what I have achieved, having given everything of myself. Thank you, tennis, for all the experiences and lessons,' the tennisist wrote. He emphasized that while tennis is an individual sport, success can only be achieved with a team, family, and the support of those who followed him.
Cachin, who won the ATP title in Gstaad in 2023 and reached a career-high ranking of 48th, admitted that his decision to retire at such a young age surprised many. He ended his message by thanking his family, girlfriend, friends, and all his fans.
'For many, this is just a number. For me, it's hours of training, travel, competition, sweat, and experience,' he concluded.
