Racing's forward, Adrián "Maravilla" Martínez, posted a heartfelt message on his social media hours after the team's tough elimination from the Copa Libertadores, explaining why he used the word "attribulated" to describe his mood.
The striker was shaken by the result and the manner in which it occurred. "Maravilla" admitted that the impact of the defeat is still fresh ("Hours pass and it's hard to accept") and thanked the massive support from the fans: "Thank you for the support before the match, during the match, and after."
"A bit attribulated from being so close and having it slip away like that," he began in his post on his Instagram account.
Despite the sadness, Martínez highlighted the team's commitment: "With our heads held high, we emptied ourselves completely to fulfill the objective."
However, the "Academy's" top scorer recognized the bitter taste the team was left with for its fans: "We are in debt to the hopes of all the families and people who supported us. Thank you very much, we feel very accompanied."
The post ended with a biblical quote, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, which gives context to his feelings and the use of that specific word: "We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."
