Argentine driver Franco Colapinto has been confirmed as Alpine's main driver for the next five races, replacing Jack Doohan. Colapinto, who made a good impression in his early races with Williams in 2024 but also showed some inexperience in recent incidents, will have the opportunity to demonstrate his talent and potential with the team.

"He acted very professionally in his role as a main driver. The next five races will allow us to try something different, and then we will evaluate our options," said Flavio Briatore, who recently replaced Oliver Oakes as team director. Briatore emphasized that fairly evaluating drivers during this season is crucial to maximize Alpine's future ambitions.

The decision to place Colapinto in the main seat also responds to a mid-term strategic vision, considering that Alpine's campaign in 2025 has not met the expectations generated after their sixth place in the constructors' championship in 2024. The team is currently in the second last position and has only scored points thanks to Gasly.

"We believe it is the time to make this test. With such a close grid this year and a competitive car that has improved drastically in the last 12 months, we are confident that Colapinto will prove his worth in the upcoming races," added Briatore. The Italian also confirmed that Doohan will continue to be part of the team, receiving ongoing support from Alpine.

Franco Colapinto will return to the track on Sunday, May 18, at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix to begin his series of five races as Alpine's main driver. Briatore underscored the importance of this decision for the future of the team, highlighting that the 2026 season will be key and that it is essential to carry out thorough evaluations of drivers at present to ensure long-term success.
