Lionel Messi is not included in the Argentina national team for participation in the next two knockout tournament matches of the 2026 World Cup. This was announced by the Argentine Football Federation on Monday.
This decision was prompted by Messi's absence from two matches due to his recent transfer to the Parisian club, after 20 years spent at "Barcelona". Thus, the star will not return to the national team.
"This decision was made in accordance with the agreements between the Argentine Football Association and the PFA," the Federation's statement said.
The next games of the Argentina national team are on October 7 and 12. It is still unclear whether Messi will return to the squad for later matches.
