Tonight, River Plate will face Talleres de Córdoba in the International Supercup, where Marcelo Gallardo, the successful head coach of the team, could achieve his first title since returning to the "Millonario" club.
Gallardo is the most successful coach in River's history, with a total of 14 titles to his name, evenly divided between national and international trophies. His first victory came in 2014 when he won the Copa Sudamericana after defeating Atlético Nacional. The following year, in 2015, River obtained three more international titles: the Recopa Sudamericana, the Suruga Bank, and the Copa Libertadores.
The Recopa Sudamericana of 2016 and the Copa Argentina 2016 are also part of Gallardo's collection. In 2017 and 2019, River excelled in the Copa Argentina and the Supercopa Argentina under his management, in addition to winning the Primera División Championship and the Trofeo de Campeones in 2021.
However, Gallardo's greatest achievement with River was the epic victory in the 2018 Copa Libertadores, where they defeated their classic rival Boca Juniors in the final held at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid. This feat granted them the right to play and win the 2019 Recopa Sudamericana against Brazil's Athletico Paranaense.
If River wins the International Supercup tonight, Gallardo will add another title to his already impressive collection and mark a milestone as the most successful coach in the recent history of the Núñez club.
