River Plate Plans Major Stadium Upgrades for 2025

The Monumental Stadium of River Plate club is one of the most modernized in Argentina in recent years. Under the management of Jorge Brito, various renovations have been carried out, including an increase in capacity, improvements to the grass, installation of 360° LED screens, expansion of parking, and construction of barbecue areas, among other projects.

The secretary general Stefano Di Carlo revealed the plans for 2025 at the Monumental. In an interview with Infobae, he mentioned that restoration work will be carried out on the interiors of the stadium, covering thousands of square meters of renovation. Di Carlo specified that small adjustments are being made inside, which constitutes an important and definitive advance for the club.

Despite the planned improvements, Di Carlo clarified that adding a roof to the stadium is not currently on the agenda. The focus is on completing the committed stages of the project, which are finishing with the current management and relate to aspects such as the Cantilo site and club facilities.

One of the highlighted projects for this year is the High-Performance Center at the Cantilo grounds, located between Lugones Avenue, Medrano Stream, and Tiro Federal. Among the significant advances is the renovation of the boxes in the San Martín and Belgrano stands.

The Monumental currently has a capacity of 85,018 spectators per match. A dedicated space for the Youth Divisions is being planned. Di Carlo pointed out that this project is the most ambitious of River Plate and that the Cantilo site will be essential to adequately accommodate these divisions for the first time in the club's history.

The complex will have six fields, divided between synthetic and natural grass, as well as building infrastructure of approximately 5,000 square meters. It will include locker rooms, a dining room, a kitchen, a gym, medical offices, a neuroscience area, kinesiology, and press offices. The "Casa River" will be relocated to house young footballers in 24 rooms designed for 72 residents. This space will also be used for social activities, recreational activities, the Ángel Labruna school, and women's football.
