Matchday 8 of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol Apertura Tournament comes to an end this Tuesday with teams heading towards the playoffs. In Zone A, Estudiantes de La Plata, Tigre, and Argentinos Juniors lead with 18 points. Boca follows closely with 17 points, remaining in the fight despite complicated situations. Huracán and Central Córdoba from Santiago del Estero follow with 15 and 14 points respectively. Barracas Central and Defensa y Justicia would occupy the last qualifying spots with 12 and 11 points.
A surprise in this zone is Racing, which, despite its performance in international tournaments, has suffered due to injuries, losing four of the last five matches and currently sits in tenth place with 9 points, although with one game less to play.
In Zone B, Rosario Central remains at the top despite losing to Boca, sharing the lead with San Lorenzo, which achieved a last-minute victory over Racing. Independiente has the chance to take the lead if they win their match against Banfield. River Plate is in fourth place with 15 points after a defeat against Estudiantes.
The rest of the positions in Zone B are occupied by Deportivo Riestra, Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Platense, and Lanús from fifth to eighth place. The last two positions are held by Talleres de Córdoba and Vélez, two teams that excelled in the last Liga Profesional de Fútbol, which ended with the title for Vélez Sarsfield.
