Argentinian forward Giuliano Simeone, currently a player for Atlético de Madrid, shared details about his time at River Plate, his present in the Madrid team, his connection with Argentina, and his aspiration to participate in the 2026 World Cup. Simeone, an important figure in the team managed by his father Diego Simeone, has caught the attention of national coach Lionel Scaloni.
In an interview with Infobae, Simeone expressed his focus on self-criticism and the constant quest to give the best of himself: "I am more about self-criticism, that you always have to give a little more. There are a lot of very good players, hopefully the day that call comes I will be there."
Despite being established in European football, Simeone does not forget his roots at River Plate, the club where he developed before moving to Spain in 2019. The footballer expressed his gratitude to River for the tools provided during his development and emphasized the demand and focus on the present that characterize the world of football.
About his professional relationship with his father at Atlético de Madrid, Simeone mentioned: "We are both professionals, we focus on the Atlético de Madrid crest and work. When I enter the Cerro del Espino, he is the team’s coach."
The Argentine player revealed how he received the news of his call-up to the national team: "I was at home relaxed and I received a message from an unknown number: ‘I am Walter Samuel, can I call you?’ It took me five seconds to respond: ‘Call me, haha.’"
Simeone confessed that his main goal is to participate in the 2026 World Cup, describing it as a dream for which he will work hard. Despite being born in Rome and having lived most of his life in Spain, the forward has always been clear about his desire to represent Argentina: "I trained in the Reserve, I had teammates who helped me a lot, coaches, physios… Hopefully one day I can be there."
Atlético de Madrid, Simeone's team, will face Real Madrid in the round of 16 of the Champions League this Tuesday at 5 PM (Argentina time).
