On Monday, Sebastián Domínguez passed by the Olympic Village to say goodbye to the team before the 4:00 PM training session. His resignation leaves Vélez in a complicated situation, especially since the team needs to improve in the local tournament and prepare for its debut in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores in a few weeks. President Fabián Berlanga hopes to soon finalize the arrival of a new coach, a crucial decision for the future of the team that is looking to turn things around after a worrying start.

One of the candidates to replace Dominguez is Julio César Falcioni, who has expressed his interest in coaching Vélez. Dominguez failed to secure a single victory in eight matches, and the team has not scored goals so far in the tournament, a situation that led him to step aside. Meanwhile, Marcelo Bravo will take over as interim coach and will lead the team in the next match against San Martín de San Juan.

Falcioni, 67 years old, has a special connection with Vélez, having been part of the club since his youth and making his professional debut in 1976. In an interview, Falcioni expressed his desire to coach the team: "I am eager to coach Vélez after the long break I had. I have the coaching staff ready. It’s my home and I am a lifelong fan." His experience as a coach and his relationship with the club position him as one of the main candidates to take charge of the team in this complicated moment.

While the management assesses its options, the squad continues its preparation under Bravo's direction. Vélez’s poor start in the 2025 Apertura Tournament prompted Sebastián Domínguez to leave his position after the 2-0 defeat against Huracán. In his farewell, Domínguez expressed his deep bond with the "Fortín": "I grew up in the club."
