Juan Román Riquelme, president of Boca Juniors, mentioned that Gago's future is uncertain, as they are evaluating the team's performance 'match by match' after being eliminated from the South American tournament in Phase 2.

After losing in the penalty shootout against Alianza Lima, Fernando Gago finds himself in a compromised position regarding his continuity in the role. Although he expressed in a press conference that he has the energy to move forward, his future remains uncertain and could be defined after this Friday's match against Rosario Central in the local championship.

After several meetings between Juan Román Riquelme, members of the Football Council, and Gago himself, it was determined that the coach will lead the match this Friday, the result of which will be key for his continuation on the bench, according to sources from the club cited by EFE.

Regarding Boca Juniors' elimination from the Copa Libertadores, the Argentine team won 2-1 in the first leg against Alianza Lima, but lost 1-0 in the return leg, tying on aggregate score. After extra time, in the penalty shootout, Boca Juniors was defeated 5-4, amid complaints from fans about the team's performance.

Fernando Gago commented: 'This sadness we all share. We have to keep working and set new objectives,' which was not well received by fans who believe that the Copa Libertadores was the priority of the year, in addition to the 2025 Club World Cup. The fans also blame Gago for the team's poor performance, despite the signing of quality players like Agustín Marchesín.
