The official account of River on social media surprised their lifelong rival, Boca Juniors, after the unexpected elimination of the latter against Alianza Lima from Peru in the second round of the Copa Libertadores repechage.
In the post published on the official social media of the Nuñez club, one could read: "Good morning, Millionaires! There are 19 days left until the draw for the group stage of the Libertadores." This publication was clearly interpreted as a mockery towards Boca Juniors, which will not participate in international tournaments this year, unlike River, which will play in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores for the eleventh consecutive time.
Boca Juniors lost in the penalty shootout against Alianza Lima, a team coached by Néstor "Pipo" Gorosito, which unleashed various reactions in the Argentine football world. Additionally, another ironic phrase that went widely viral was expressed by Rodolfo D'Onofrio, former president of River Plate, who recalled the 2018 Copa Libertadores final by saying: "Before December 9, 2018, someone said that the loser would take 20 years to recover. They were right."
These latest provocations between River and Boca have generated a great stir on social media, further fueling the historic rivalry between both clubs.
