The Los Pumas 7's team has made Vancouver their second home since 2022, accumulating 23 unbeaten matches and 22 consecutive victories. In previous finals, they defeated Fiji in 2022, France in 2023, and New Zealand in 2024, establishing themselves as one of the most dominant teams on the circuit. Additionally, this is the first time the Argentine national seven team has managed to beat South Africa in a circuit final, representing another significant step in their growth and ambition to remain at the top of world rugby.
Last Sunday, Los Pumas 7's were crowned champions of the Vancouver Sevens after defeating South Africa 19-12 in an electrifying final. With this victory, the team led by Santiago Gómez Cora achieved their second title of the season and reaffirmed their dominance in Canada, where they have now won four titles in a row.
Los Pumas 7s started with a crushing pace, and in the first possession of the match, Luciano González Rizzoni scored the first try after recovering the ball. Minutes later, González extended the lead following a great play from Marcos Moneta, allowing Argentina to go into halftime with a solid 12-0 advantage. In the second half, Tobías Wade stretched the difference with a new try, but South Africa responded with two consecutive scores, adding suspense to the final moments. Despite the South African surge, Los Pumas 7's clung to their defense in the final minutes and managed to maintain possession until the buzzer sounded, thereby securing another title at the Vancouver Sevens.
The path to the final was not easy: they progressed through the group stage with victories over Kenya (24-0), Great Britain (19-14), and France (12-5). They then defeated the 'Gallic' team again in the quarter-finals by 12-7 and eliminated Spain in a tough semi-final that ended 7-0. This new championship reaffirms Argentina's hegemony in the Canadian tournament. The Argentine rugby sevens team continues to mark a golden era in the World Circuit.
