The River Plate team faces Lanús this Sunday with the goal of achieving a victory to celebrate with their supporters. For this occasion, coach Marcelo Gallardo made changes in the formation, surprising everyone with the start of a 19-year-old: Santiago Lencina. Minutes before the match, the "Muñeco" confirmed the lineup, which includes stars like Pity Martínez and the aforementioned youth who is making his second consecutive call-up.
Santiago Lencina, hailing from Chaco, joined River in 2019 after being discovered in a regional tournament while playing for Club Atlético Deportivo Obreros Unidos. The young player, under contract until 2026, initially played as an attacking midfielder but has been adapted to the position of winger on both the left and right sides. His debut was in a match against Unión de Santa Fe, where he had a brief appearance at the Monumental stadium.
Currently, Lencina stands out as the youth player with the most experience, having worn the jersey in an official match and being called up by the Muñeco for the second consecutive time. In 2024, his role was crucial in the Reserve team that won two titles in December. Last year, he made his professional debut during the brief interim management of Marcelo Escudero, before Gallardo's return.
