The former Red Bull Formula 1 driver, Sergio Pérez, praised the Argentine Franco Colapinto, who belongs to Alpine, for reaching the highest category of motorsport. Pérez highlighted the difficulty of making it to Formula 1 as a Latino. "Imagine your son going to live abroad at 14, not knowing where, with whom, or how. It was difficult," Pérez expressed.
In an interview, Pérez shared that he and Colapinto have gone through similar experiences, allowing them to connect uniquely in the world of Formula 1. Pérez recalled his beginnings and the lack of support he experienced upon arriving in F1, which is why he enjoys providing that backing to Franco Colapinto, as he believes the young driver has a promising future in the category.
Franco Colapinto managed to remain as the third driver for Alpine after several negotiations, alongside Pierre Gasly and rookie Jack Doohan. Colapinto participated in nine races with Williams before establishing himself at Alpine. Pérez praised Colapinto's progress in his short career and wished him success, hoping he can secure a seat for the next season.
Regarding the young Argentine driver, Pérez emphasized his outstanding performance and the speed with which he has surprised the F1 world. Nevertheless, Pérez pointed out that the path in F1 is ever-changing and that everything is just beginning for Colapinto. Additionally, Pérez mentioned that his mother was crucial in his own journey to F1, valuing her support at every stage of his sports career.
