Leandro Paredes Will Not Join Boca Juniors

The summer novel in the Argentine football transfer market seems to have come to an end, as everything points to midfielder Leandro Paredes not becoming a new player for Boca. Although Boca has until March to acquire players, Paredes' current team, Roma, as of February 3, no longer has the margin to find a replacement for the midfielder who won the Qatar 2022 World Cup with the Argentine national team.

Additionally, the statements from Roma's coach, Italian Claudio Ranieri, who assured that "nobody wants to leave," should be considered. This situation could mark a definitive end to the summer drama, and Boca will have to wait at least until the next transfer window in winter to secure Paredes' services.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who came up through Boca's youth categories, made his professional debut with the "Xeneize" in 2010 and remained there until 2014, when he was transferred to Chievo Verona in Italy. He then had short stints with Roma, Empoli, and Zenit in Russia, before making the leap in 2019 to Paris Saint-Germain, where he shared the team with his compatriots Lionel Messi and Ángel Di María, as well as Brazilian Neymar Junior.

Paredes also spent a year at Juventus before returning to Roma, where he has been playing since the 2023-2024 season. Throughout his career, Paredes won two titles with Boca (Torneo Apertura 2011 and Copa Argentina 2012), a Premier League title with Zenit in 2019, ten trophies with PSG (Ligue 1 in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023, Coupe de France in 2020 and 2021, Coupe de la Ligue in 2020, and Supercoupe de France in 2019, 2020, and 2022), and three with the Argentine national team (Copa América 2021 and 2024 and Qatar 2022 World Cup).
