The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has announced the regulations for the 2025 Primera División Championship through Special Bulletin No. 6616. The tournament is scheduled to start on the weekend of July 13 and end on December 14. The qualification system for international cups will remain based on the annual table of recent seasons.
Regarding qualification for international cups, the champions of the 2025 Apertura Tournament, the 2025 Clausura Tournament, the Copa Argentina champion, and the teams best positioned in the overall table will participate in the Copa Libertadores. In the Copa Sudamericana, the six best-placed teams in the general table that have not secured their place in the Libertadores will earn a spot.
The AFA had debated the possibility of establishing a ranking to define the slots for CONMEBOL tournaments. The championship final will take place in a neutral stadium determined by the AFA. As for relegations, there will be one based on general classification and another based on averages.
The Apertura tournament will start soon, concluding on June 1 before the international break for the celebration of the Club World Cup. The Professional Football League will consist of two zones of 15 teams each, where sixteen dates will be played in addition to the classic match.
The zones are as follows:
Zone A: Racing, Boca, Estudiantes de La Plata, Defensa y Justicia, Huracán, Argentinos Juniors, Belgrano, Unión, Newell's, Barracas Central, Banfield, Central Córdoba, Independiente Rivadavia, Tigre, and Aldosivi.
Zone B: River, Talleres, Godoy Cruz, Lanús, Independiente, Rosario Central, Platense, San Lorenzo, Instituto, Atlético Tucumán, Deportivo Riestra, Gimnasia, Sarmiento, San Martín de San Juan, and Vélez.
Subsequently, the round of 16, quarter-finals, and semi-finals will be played, which will be single matches in the stadium of the team better placed in the table.
