Under 20 South American Championship Starts This Thursday

The Under 20 South American Championship will begin on Thursday with Peru facing Paraguay, followed by Venezuela against Chile. Argentina debuts against Brazil on January 24.


Under 20 South American Championship Starts This Thursday

The South American U-20 Championship will begin this Thursday with the matches corresponding to the first date of Group A. The first match of the tournament will be between Peru and Paraguay at 6 PM (Argentina time) at the Estadio Metropolitano de Lara. Immediately after, Venezuela will debut against Chile at 8:30 PM. Uruguay, which is part of Group A, will not play on this date and will debut in the second date against Chile on Saturday, January 25.

The Argentine U-20 National Team, led by Diego Placente, is part of Group B and will debut against Brazil on Friday, January 24, at 8:30 PM. Argentina, recognized as a power in the category, will seek to improve its performance compared to the previous tournament, where it did not advance to the final phase.

In Group B, Argentina will face Colombia, Bolivia, and Ecuador during the competition. The 2023 South American U-20 Championship will feature the following matches on the first date: Peru against Paraguay at 6 PM and Venezuela against Chile at 8:30 PM. On January 24, Bolivia and Ecuador will face each other at 6 PM, followed by the match between Argentina and Brazil at 8:30 PM.

The last champions of the South American U-20 Championship were Colombia in 2005, Brazil in 2007, 2009, and 2011, and Uruguay in 2017. The 2021 tournament was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, while in 2019 Ecuador was crowned champion and Brazil won the title in the 2023 edition.
