Argentina's departure from the World Health Organization (WHO) was officially announced this Thursday in the Official Bulletin (BO) after one year had passed since the formal notification was made. According to a BO publication accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the Director of the Directorate of Treaties, Juan Pablo Paniego, disclosed the details of the government's resignation, noting that the date of the denunciation was March 17, 2025. Furthermore, Paniego stated that the relationship with the organization was dissolved last Tuesday, when Argentina's Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Pablo Quirno, confirmed “the withdrawal of Argentina from the World Health Organization (WHO)” following the completion of one year since the “formal notification” was made. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship recalled that the country had adhered to the WHO on July 22, 1946, in New York, United States, but this treaty did not enter into force for the country until October 22, 1948, when Law No. 13.211 was approved. On February 5, 2025, it had been announced that Argentina was withdrawing from the WHO when President Javier Milei instructed former Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein to process the exit due to the government's disagreements with the health measures adopted during the pandemic.
