Trial Against Sena Clan for the Murder of Cecilia Strzyzowski Begins

The trial started with jury selection, and lawyers are making serious accusations. The case has caused a major political scandal in Chaco province.

"Pay no attention," insisted Osuna about the woman implicated in the murder of Cecilia. The trial against the Sena Clan for the femicide of 28-year-old Cecilia Strzyzowski, who disappeared more than two years ago and whose body has not yet been found, began with the jury selection process. At the same time, the defender of Emerenciano accused Marcela Acuña of "doing whatever she wants." Ricardo Osuna, lawyer for Emerenciano Sena, spoke with the Argentine News Agency and stated that during the first day of the debate, "40 jurors were dismissed," so the selection will continue this Tuesday: "There are 12 main and four alternates." The lawyer, known for representing Antonio Benítez (one of the accused in the disappearance of Loan Danilo Peña), attacked Marcela Acuña—his client's wife—because she wants "to do her own thing": "We have to see how the evidence goes and how she behaves because she wants to do whatever she wants." In this sense, he emphasized that she "wants the trial to start and end" so that "Emerenciano gets off scot-free." The union leader and the lawyer are indicted as necessary accomplices to doubly aggravated homicide due to the family bond and for mediating gender-based violence. The son of the couple, César, the victim's ex-partner, is charged with doubly aggravated homicide as the perpetrator, while Gustavo Melgarejo, Gustavo Obregón, Griselda Reinoso, and Fabiana González are being tried for the crime of aggravated concealment. The Disappearance. On June 2, 2023, Cecilia went to her in-laws' home to meet her husband, where a camera recorded her entry but never her exit, and that was the last time she was seen alive. Although the young woman's body has still not been found, investigators believe that she was murdered inside the house that afternoon, her body was taken to the family's landfill, burned, and then her remains were scattered in different areas of the Emerenciano neighborhood. During the investigation, various important elements were found, for example, the victim's engagement ring, a pendant, photos, and even 16 dental prostheses that, after analysis, were confirmed to belong to Cecilia. Likewise, another influential point in the case was the discovery of a divorce signed four days after getting married. Even so, after the expert examinations, it was determined that the victim's signature on the separation was fake. It was learned that Acuña did not accept her son's relationship with Cecilia, so they believe that the entire plan was linked to getting rid of her. This case caused an unprecedented political rift in Chaco because Emerenciano and his wife Marcela were recognized piquetero leaders linked to Jorge Capitanich, who was then the governor of the province.
