The American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina, which groups more than 700 companies and represents a significant part of the country's economic activity, expressed its deep disappointment at the decision not to promote the "Clean Slate" bill in Congress. This bill proposed to prevent individuals with corruption charges from accessing public office.
In a statement, Amcham expressed that the integrity of officials is crucial for building citizen trust and strengthening democratic quality. The lack of action against corruption weakens institutions, undermines social trust, and hinders sustainable development. The chamber stated that this refusal reflects a distancing of political leadership from the citizens' demand for transparency and public ethics.
For Amcham, a competitive Argentina needs clear rules, legal security, and a strong ethical commitment from all institutions. Without these values, there can be no conducive environment for investment, innovation, or economic growth. The chamber pledged to continue promoting an agenda based on integrity, the rule of law, and accountability, as it believes that not everything is the same in this context of fighting against impunity.
