The President's Office congratulated the new pope, Leon XIV, elected in the conclave held in the Vatican. It described him as a "light that guides" in times of "confusion, fragmentation, and global challenges." The message issued by the Argentine Executive emphasized hope for a papacy of "unity, truth without fear, and charity without reservations."
"Today more than ever, we wish for the Pope's voice to resonate strongly in defense of the pillars that have upheld civilization: life, as the main gift; freedom, as the sacred gift of the Creator; and private property, as the foundation of personal responsibility and the development of peoples," stated the official text.
In the statement, Javier Milei's administration also pointed out that it hopes Leon XIV's words will be a "shield against the culture of death, the growing totalitarianism, and immoral relativism." The letter closed with the Latin expression "Ad multos annos," a traditional wish for a long life for the newly elected pope.
