The current far-right government has undertaken a profound restructuring of the State and the public and private normative system, leading to cuts and destruction of rights in various aspects of people's lives. The Coordinadora Contra la Represión Policial e Institucional (CORREPI) has alerted about this process, which they qualify as a 'profound regime change.'
In this context, guarantees that previously protected these rights have been reduced or eliminated, leading to the violation of democratic freedoms and the loss of lives. Since President Milei took office, 549 people have been reported killed by the State, and laws such as the recidivism law and the 'antimafia' law have been approved, compromising fundamental principles such as legality and innocence.
CORREPI highlights the serious consequences of these measures, identifying a regime change with a systematic destruction of rights and guarantees. State repression has intensified, affecting various areas of society and resulting in a high cost in human lives.
In particular, there has been a significant increase in cases of shooting at easy targets, with 143 shootings reported over a period of 14 months, reflecting a concerning upward trend. The organization also highlights the incidence of femicides at the hands of members of the forces, placing these crimes as the leading cause of death of women by the state repressive apparatus.
State violence, in all its manifestations, is directly linked to the needs for social control and discipline of the capitalist system. According to CORREPI, these repressive policies respond to a class logic and seek to stifle any form of protest or resistance.
In this context, CORREPI has presented a detailed report on the national repressive situation in 2024, highlighting the alarming indicators of state violence and the devastating consequences of the implemented policies. The organization urges society to become aware of this reality and to organize to defend their rights and freedoms in an increasingly repressive and dangerous scenario.
