
According to a survey by the consulting firm Giacobbe & Associates, 40.3 percent of Argentines believe that President Javier Milei should face an impeachment trial for his role in the $LIBRA cryptocurrency case. Despite this, the president's positive image only slightly decreased from 50.1 to 49.6 percent. The scandal caused by the launch and subsequent fall of the cryptocurrency resulted in an increase in the negative perception of the president, which rose from 36.2 to 46.6 percent.
Regarding the $LIBRA case, 72.4 percent of respondents said they were very informed, and 45.3 percent believed that Milei is guilty for knowing it was a scam, while 53.1 percent thought he was deceived. Concerning the impeachment that opposition deputies propose, 40.3 percent of respondents believe the president should be subjected to that process, while 51.6 percent oppose it.
The $LIBRA case has had a significant impact on public opinion about Milei. Although the president claimed to have acted in good faith and removed the publication upon learning of the scam allegations, 50.4 percent of respondents supported him before and continue to do so, while 13.7 percent stopped backing him. A 33.8 percent indicated that they never supported him.
The survey, conducted with 1,500 people between February 17 and 18, 2025, through mobile devices, has a margin of error of 2.5 percent and was adjusted according to quotas for gender, age, education level, and income. The $LIBRA case has triggered a political crisis in the Argentine government since February 14, when Milei endorsed the launch of the cryptocurrency, which resulted in profit withdrawals of 87.4 million dollars.
