Deputies present a project to revoke delegated powers to the Executive Branch
Deputies from different political parties have presented a bill in the Chamber of Deputies with the aim of revoking the powers delegated to the Executive Branch. The text of the project emphasizes that legislative delegation must be exercised responsibly to avoid possible arbitrariness that affects the rule of law.
The project emphasizes that the delegation of legislative powers to the Executive Branch should be considered an exceptional tool, justified only in extraordinary circumstances. The deputies argue that the promotion of a cryptocurrency by the President, without adequate supervision, jeopardizes institutional stability and the proper exercise of constitutional competencies.
Furthermore, they highlight the importance of preserving the balance of powers and avoiding excessive concentration of powers in the Executive Branch. The project, identified with file 7867-D-2024, is expected to generate intense debate in Congress in the coming weeks.
The legislators argue that revoking the delegated powers would strengthen legal security and send a clear message about the need to govern with responsibility and transparency. They stated that recent events related to the promotion of the cryptocurrency $LIBRA by the President have substantially altered the factual premises that motivated the delegation of powers.
The proposal seeks to repeal Article 1 of Law 27,742, which granted special powers to President Javier Milei in various areas. More than 30 legislators have signed the project, including prominent figures such as Victoria Tolosa Paz, Eduardo Valdés, and Leopoldo Moreau.
Amidst criticism for the lack of transparency and regulation in the promotion of the digital financial asset, the initiative of the bill raises the need for Congress to fully resume its legislative powers to ensure the proper exercise of constitutional competencies and strengthen legal security in the country.
