Investigation Launched into President Milei's Ethical Breach

Following the scandal generated by President Javier Milei's promotion of the digital currency $Libra, the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) has initiated an investigation to determine if there has been any violation of the Ethical Law (No. 25.188). If any irregularities are found, a criminal complaint will be filed with the judiciary.

In a meeting that included the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, and Mauricio Novelli, a regular visitor to the Quinta de Olivos, it was assessed whether the advertisement shared by Milei on his social media could constitute any crime. Additionally, it was detailed that if corrupt practices or misappropriation of public funds are detected, a criminal complaint will be filed.

The OA has expressed its commitment to seek and recover funds and assets obtained from acts of corruption. If no corruption crimes are found but administrative irregularities are detected, measures will be taken with the Ministry of Justice and the General Treasury Prosecutor's Office. An official from the presidential office assured: "Anything that is investigable will be investigated."

Constitutional lawyer Félix Lonigro considered that the measure announced by the Executive regarding the OA's investigation is more of an action for show. He explained that the OA lacks autonomy and that a prior judicial ruling is required for the commission of offenses, thus he believes the investigation lacks real significance.

The OA's investigation will focus on exploring the profile of those involved in the promotion of the $Libra currency and their relationship with the president, including Hayden Mark Davis, CEO of KIP Protocol, Julian Peh, and Mauricio Novelli. The company of Davis, "Kelsen Ventures," and KIP Protocol will also be investigated following the unstable launch of the currency.

The OA, led by Alejandro Melik, will intervene to determine if there was any improper conduct by any member of the National Government, including the president. This entire process is framed within the Public Ethical Law. It is noteworthy that despite these investigations, Casa Rosada dismisses the possibility of advancing the impeachment request promoted by Unión por la Patria in Congress.
