Национальная служба санитарии и качества агропродовольствия (SENASA)announced that the importation of rabbits as pets to the Argentine Republic is allowed, with a limit of up to five specimens per person. This measure has been established through the approval of sanitary requirements that must be met by importers wishing to bring rabbits into the country through border posts.
According to the words of the president of SENASA, Pablo Cortese, specific laboratory tests have been authorized to detect Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease, thus ensuring an adequate level of protection for these animals in relation to this disease.
To carry out the importation of rabbits, the presentation of certain documents issued by the corresponding authorities is required, provided that the sanitary safety of the shipment and the sanitary status of the country is guaranteed. The process involves applying for importation through the Distance Procedures Platform (TAD) and a sworn declaration regarding the rabbit's residence in the country of origin.
In addition, it is stated that rabbits must remain in isolation for at least 30 days prior to their exportation, have been vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease, and have received two antiparasitic treatments during that period. Likewise, upon entering the country, each rabbit must be accompanied by an International Veterinary Certificate issued by SENASA.
As a final requirement, upon arrival in the country, the rabbit must undergo a quarantine period in official facilities or the residence authorized by SENASA, during which no health problems are detected. This news was communicated through a resolution published in the Official Gazette by the National Service of Sanitation and Quality of Agroalimentary.
