In the early hours of Sunday and until the first hours of the morning, the Buenos Aires Ministry of Transportation, led by Martín Marinucci, carried out a large-scale road safety operation throughout the province. Security agents conducted checks at various strategic points such as the Buenos Aires - La Plata highway, Tres Arroyos, Tandil, Mar del Plata, and San Clemente, among others.
Alongside Marinucci were Eduardo Feijoo, Undersecretary of Road Safety of the Ministry, and the provincial directors of the MTPBA, Jorge Orzali and Cristian Vázquez, in addition to the collaboration of the municipalities involved in the operation. The checks were supervised by Marinucci, who verified the work of the road safety inspectors, agents of the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV), and the Superintendence of Road Safety Police.
During the operation, emphasis was placed on raising awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. "Today we were accompanied by Mothers of Pain, Yellow Stars, who spoke with drivers to make them aware of the damage caused by driving while intoxicated," mentioned the provincial official.
Regarding the results of the checks, Marinucci reported: "We encountered the imprudence of 235 drivers who made the decision to get into their vehicles after consuming alcohol." The minister emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in adhering to road regulations, stating that "driving after consuming alcohol is not an option, we need responsible citizenship that takes care of itself and others."
During the operation, breathalyzer tests were conducted at different points, such as on the Campana branch where 992 vehicles were checked, resulting in 90 positive cases. In Pilar, 2535 tests were conducted, detecting 145 cases of drivers who had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
