World Condom Day emphasizes the importance of its use in sexual health, with only 14% protection in relationships in Argentina. Learn how to use it correctly.

World Condom Day: Improve Sexual Health

World Condom Day is commemorated this Thursday and invites us to reflect on the importance of its use in sexual health. Valeria El Haj, an expert on the topic, emphasizes that some sexually transmitted infections, such as HIV, can be asymptomatic for a long time, making the preventive use of condoms essential, even when appearing to be in good health.

In our country, only 14% of people admit to using protection in all their sexual relationships, and among young people, the average is 17%. Additionally, approximately 140,000 people are living with HIV. It is essential to remember how to use condoms correctly to ensure maximum protection. Some tips include checking the expiration date, opening the package carefully, placing it on the erect penis before sexual contact, leaving space at the tip, using lubricant if necessary, and carefully removing it after intercourse.

The condom is crucial not only in preventing unwanted pregnancies but also in protecting against sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia. Dr. Valeria El Haj highlights the importance of promoting its use by providing accurate information and eliminating myths surrounding this contraceptive method.

"World Condom Day is an opportunity to remind everyone that sexual health is a right and a responsibility for all. The condom, when used correctly, is one of the most effective barriers to reduce the risk of infections and unwanted pregnancies. Every action counts towards a healthier sexual life," Dr. El Haj concluded. Using condoms properly is one of the most effective ways to take care of oneself and protect others from possible complications caused by sexually transmitted diseases, even in the absence of visible symptoms.
