Tragic incident at Las Lajas border crossing

A 76-year-old woman was found dead inside a vehicle heading towards the Pino Hachado Border Crossing to Chile. The driver, a Chilean citizen residing in Neuquén, transported the body of his deceased wife as if she were another passenger.

The unfortunate incident was discovered by Customs and Border Patrol personnel, who were alerted by the driver requesting priority medical attention for his supposedly unresponsive wife. However, upon examination, it was confirmed that the woman no longer showed vital signs.

Sub-Inspector of Las Lajas, Adrián Herrera, reported that the police received notification of this tragic incident in the morning, shortly after the situation became known. While results from the autopsy are still awaited for official confirmation, there are indications pointing to what happened.

According to the driver, aged 69, the woman began to feel unwell around 4 a.m. while waiting in line to enter the border crossing. Although the family had planned the crossing into Chile for economic reasons, the urgency to reach their destination may have influenced the decision to continue the journey despite the woman's precarious health.

This tragic event has shocked the family and local authorities, who continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the woman's death.
