Argentina-Chile Border Reopens After Snowstorm

The Cristo Redentor International Border Crossing has reopened after being closed due to a heavy snowstorm that hit the high mountain area in Mendoza. The Pehuenche Pass will also be open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. As previously reported, road closures began at 10:00 PM on Saturday, March 21st, in Uspallata and Guardia Vieja, while the international tunnel was closed in the early minutes of Sunday due to unfavorable weather conditions in the high mountains. Authorities explained that the measure was taken because of heavy snowfalls with strong whiteouts that impacted the area. Although the snowfall was a beautiful sight, initial assessments determined the complications it posed for drivers on National Route 7. Authorities have determined that the crossing is feasible for cargo transport, buses, and private vehicles. Through a communiqué accessed by the Argentine News Agency, they detailed that the Cristo Redentor Pass is open 24 hours a day for cargo, buses, and private vehicles.
