Yellow Alert for Strong Winds in Chubut and Santa Cruz

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a yellow alert for potential meteorological phenomena capable of causing damage and posing a risk to the temporary interruption of daily activities in the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz.

On Monday, Chubut had declared a red alert due to winds reaching up to 150 km/h. Severe weather conditions are being reported in the Meseta de Río Senguer area, as well as in the cities of Sarmiento and Escalante, and in the southwestern part of Florentino Ameghino.

Meanwhile, in Santa Cruz, classes have been suspended following wind gusts exceeding 130 km/h, which have caused roof damage, structural issues, and dozens of emergency calls.

Additionally, three fishing boats sank on Monday at the Caleta Paula port, in the southern Santa Cruz city of Caleta Olivia. The strong winds intensified the waves, and although the boats were moored, their defenses could not withstand the force of the sea. The sinking was recorded by port workers, and fortunately, there were no victims as the vessels were unmanned.

Emergency personnel have arrived at the scene, and the Naval Prefecture will assess the damages caused by the storm once weather conditions improve.
