In the area known as "La Batea", hotspots of fire have been detected, where operations have been deployed with the participation of brigadiers from bases such as Río Pico, Corcovado, Alto Río Senguer, and Trevelin, as well as volunteer firefighters and technical teams from various institutions, including the SPMF. Following the initial assessments carried out by the provincial police, firefighters, and the Federal Police found accelerants, strengthening the hypothesis of an intentional fire.
Governor Ignacio Torres accused alleged members of the Mapuche community of being responsible for the fire in Epuyén. In Epuyén and in the small town of Atilio Viglione, near the border with Chile, to the west of the province of Chubut, brigadiers have been working to contain the hotspots for a week, deploying extensive resources and specialized personnel.
The Provincial Fire Management Service (SPMF) confirmed that the fires remain active, managing to contain three sectors on the left flank of Epuyén. During this Saturday, efforts have focused on cooling hot spots and building firebreaks. So far, it is estimated that about 3,000 hectares have been consumed by the flames in Epuyén, and another 2,000 in Atilio Viglione, located in the Tehuelches department.
