Argentina Sets Renewable Energy Record

Argentina achieved a new record in renewable energy supply, reaching 36.61% of electric demand on September 15, 2024. With the addition of new wind and solar parks, renewable sources are diversifying the energy matrix.

Argentina Sets Renewable Energy Record

During the third quarter of the year in Argentina, a record was set in electricity demand, with 36.61% of its supply provided by renewable sources. This figure surpasses the previous record set in February 2023, which was 32.2%. If hydroelectric technology is considered part of renewables, renewable generation in July represented 38.46% of supply and in August 37.43%.

In July, 13.5% of electricity demand was covered by renewable sources, while in August this percentage increased to 14.5%. Additionally, on September 15, 2024, an instantaneous record of demand supply was registered thanks to renewable energies.

The incorporation of new renewable energy projects during the third quarter added 216.5 MW of installed capacity to the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI), highlighting the contribution of the General Levalle I Wind Farm (Córdoba), the Pampa Energía VI Wind Farm (Buenos Aires), and the 360 Energy Solar Park in La Rioja.

In total, Argentina currently has 225 operational projects that contribute 6,206 MW to the energy matrix, supplying electricity demand for more than 6 million households. These figures include the contribution from the Renewable Energy Term Market program (MATER).

The available information, provided by the Electric Wholesale Market Administrator Company (CAMMESA), highlights the growing integration of the renewable market in the country and its contribution to quality electrical service. The inauguration of two wind farms and one solar park in Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and La Rioja during the third quarter of the year reinforces this progress in building a modern and dynamic economy, according to the technologies considered in the Renewable Energy Promotion Regime established by law.
