Suspension of $2000 Banknote Issuance in Argentina

The Government announced the suspension of the issuance of $2000 bills and the intervention of the Mint for 180 days. The decision was communicated by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni during a regular press conference.

According to the Government, the cancellation of the issuance of $2000 bills responds to the need to change the monetary structure inherited from the previous administration, which refused to authorize higher denomination bills. The intervention of the Mint will be under the responsibility of Pedro Daniel Cavagnaro, who has been involved in the reorganization of the entity.

"Starting tomorrow there will be some more details. The issuance of low denomination bills is nonsensical," added the spokesperson about the measure taken.
