A program developed and articulated between the Federal Investment Council (CFI), provincial governments, and the Argentine Wine Corporation (COVIAR) has enabled 26 wineries and 53 productive units (vineyards) to certify the Sustainability Guide to obtain the Argentina Sustainable Viticulture seal. Promoting sustainable viticulture, both environmental and economic and social, is one of the main axes of the Vitiviniculture Strategic Plan in its update to 2030, as reported by the Argentine News Agency. With this objective, the Argentine Wine Corporation (COVIAR) and provincial governments have been decisively working through the Federal Investment Council (CFI) to enable more wineries in more regions and provinces to certify the Argentina Sustainable Viticulture seal. With this goal, an innovative experience is advancing successfully, which allowed 26 wineries with 53 vineyards from 14 provinces to improve their processes and certify their practices and processes through the Argentina Sustainable Viticulture seal, in an attempt to adapt to new contexts and demands of international markets. The objective is to gain competitiveness so that more Argentine companies can export. In a program developed and articulated between the Federal Investment Council (CFI), governments of the wine-growing provinces, and the Argentine Wine Corporation (COVIAR), through its Exporting SMEs executive unit, two calls were opened and the process was successfully completed, allowing 26 wineries and 53 productive units (vineyards) from 14 Argentine provinces to certify the Sustainability Guide to obtain the Argentina Sustainable Viticulture seal. “More than ever, our producers are aligning with the demands of global consumers, science, and technology. On this path, Argentine viticulture can show concrete advances because together, from COVIAR with the support of provincial governments and the Federal Investment Council (CFI), we are building a network of producers and companies that place sustainability at the center of their business strategy,” affirms Mario González, president of COVIAR. In parallel, COVIAR worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that the Argentina Sustainable Viticulture seal, along with the certification protocol and the Sustainability Guide, are recognized and endorsed by the main monopoly importers of Argentine wines. Thus, wineries and distributors can display the seal as a differentiating attribute for their products. One by one, these are the wineries that certified the Argentina Sustainable Viticulture seal: Mendagro, Terrazas Andinas Bourras, Amansado Wines, Clement, Gamboa, Los Aromitos, Cooperativa La Riojana, Río Arena, Nanni, Sierras Azules, Los Dragones, Merced del Estero, Nant Fall, Malma, Trina, Cechin, RJ Viñedos, Cuarto Dominio, La Matilde, La Lejanía, Michango, Tacuil, Amanecer Andino, Bodega Santa Julia, Familia Zuccardi, Fecovita. Sustainability has ceased to be an aspirational concept to become a basic condition that leads us to be a competitive country in the global context.
