Investments in Dollars and Their Purchasing Power

Dollars have lost 21% of purchasing power in five years. Mutual funds and bonds from Argentine companies present investment opportunities with yields of up to 8.25% annually in dollars.

Investments in Dollars and Their Purchasing Power

In the last five years, the purchasing power of the dollar has decreased by 21%. To counteract this economic loss, there are different investment options in dollars both through mutual funds and by directly acquiring negotiable obligations.

A professional team is responsible for selecting the assets in mutual funds, which can provide annual returns between 6% and 7% in dollars. On the other hand, investing in negotiable obligations in dollars, such as the recent bond issued by YPF maturing in 2034 with an interest rate of 8.25% annually, can yield a return of 8% annually in dollars.

Corporate bonds in dollars, subject to foreign jurisdiction, offer returns that range between 7% and 8% annually, depending on the investment term and the credit rating of the issuer. Additionally, in the realm of corporate issuances with local jurisdiction, new offerings such as those from Pluspetrol can provide annual returns in dollars ranging from 5% to 7%.

Brokerage firms are encouraging those who have legalized capital to invest their dollars instead of keeping them in savings accounts, as otherwise, they could lose 20% in four years. Pablo Castagna, Director of Wealth Management at Balanz, highlights this opportunity to profit from dollars in the face of 21% inflation in the United States for the period 2020-2024.

In the past year, various Argentine companies have returned to the debt market, issuing it in dollars both internationally and locally. This situation does not necessarily imply greater leverage, as in many cases, the new debt has been used to settle old commitments at higher interest rates.

In a context of potential changes in global economic conditions, such as U.S. tariff policies, and the recent decision by the Central Bank to maintain interest rates between 4.25% and 4.5%, the timing of investing legalized money may be advantageous for Argentine savers. The funds obtained could boost investments in the Neuquén Basin.

Finally, it is not necessary to have large sums of money to start investing in dollar funds. Companies like YPF, TGS, Pampa Energía, Telecom, and Pluspetrol are examples of successful investment opportunities in the local market of corporate bonds in dollars that offer attractive returns.
