Increase in Central Bank Reserves in Argentina

The Central Bank made the largest foreign currency purchase in ten months, acquiring a total of USD 326 million in the official foreign exchange market, the highest amount since early April of last year. Despite this significant operation, international reserves closed at USD 28.741 billion after making a payment to the International Monetary Fund totaling USD 612 million.

The positive balance accumulated so far in February reached USD 438 million, demonstrating the Central Bank's ability to intervene in the exchange market and maintain a stable official dollar rate. The monetary authority took advantage of the surplus foreign currency to carry out net purchases that also helped sustain the value of the foreign currency at its lows.

According to statements from specialists, this significant acquisition of foreign currency is explained by the rebound in exporters' earnings, who have begun to activate their sales abroad. This dynamic allowed the Central Bank to make its largest foreign currency purchase since early April of last year, thereby reinforcing the country's international reserves.
