Inflation Estimate for January in Argentina

According to estimates, inflation for January is around 2.3%, mainly due to a slowdown in the increase of food and beverages. Gonzalo Lacunza noted that the increase in regulated goods and services is estimated to be close to 2%, marking a significant slowdown compared to the previous month. He highlighted that December's inflation had negatively surprised in terms of core inflation but was boosted by the drop in prices of seasonal products like vegetables.

On the other hand, January's inflation, which will be announced in the coming weeks by INDEC, is expected to range between 2% and 2.5%, according to surveys from various private consultancies. Fundación Libertad & Progreso estimated that January's inflation will close at 2%, which would represent a decrease of 0.7 percentage points compared to December.

The consultancy Equilibria predicts an inflation rate of 2.1%, highlighting a significant slowdown in food and beverages, especially influenced by the price increase of meat in the previous month. Meanwhile, LCG indicates that inflation will also be 2%, although it mentions that the last four weeks show a notable decline.

EcoGo forecasts a closure of 2.3% for January's inflation, arguing that it is due to a higher-than-expected increase in food and to increases in the 'labor' of the Consumer Confidence Index and in cigarettes. Analytica, for its part, agrees with EcoGo on a prediction of 2.3%, while Empiria reveals the highest value with a closure of 2.5%. Claude Caprarulo from Analytica highlighted that regulated prices also show a smaller increase compared to December.
