The Nestlé food factory in Villa Nueva, Córdoba, will suspend its operations in March, affecting 183 workers who will take vacations. The company, with 95 years of activity in Argentina, argued the need to reduce production due to a decrease in exports and the adaptation to local demand.
"Nestlé is planning a temporary suspension of production during March," stated the Swiss multinational. The plant will assign the corresponding vacations for the 2024 period to its employees, complying with the 45 days of notice required by legislation.
In the period of 2022-2024, Nestlé had communicated investments of US$ 120 million to the government to increase exports, improve its infrastructure, and promote sustainability and regenerative agriculture. However, due to low consumption last year, sales decreased in most business units.
The Food Industry Workers Union (STIA) expressed concern about the "overstock" of products due to difficulties in placing them in a low-demand market. The union expects intervention from the Ministry of Labor, led by Omar Sereno, to mediate and reach an agreement between both parties.
