A collapse affected 10 floors of the Apart Hotel Dubrovnik in Villa Gesell. According to Nicolás Valdez from the local Building Inspection Department, the crumbling started from the base, approximately on the third level. A search for people trapped under the rubble has begun.
The municipality reported that unauthorized construction had taken place in the hotel. Authorities halted the work on August 20 upon discovering that they did not have municipal permits. Later, some specific tasks were authorized, but the owners planned to install an elevator without the proper documentation.
The collapse occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at the Apart Hotel Dubrovnik, a ten-story building that is 38 years old. According to official information, the collapsed part of the building was being illegally modified. Rescue efforts continue in search of missing persons, and it is mentioned that an adjacent residence was also affected.
It is estimated that at the time of the collapse, there were at least six people on site, suggesting that the situation could have originated in the structure of that specific floor. Firefighters are working on the removal of debris and in the search for possible survivors.
