Villa Gesell, January 25 (NA) -- The Municipality of Villa Gesell filed a criminal complaint for abandonment of a person against a lifeguard at a concession stand. Instead of assisting a drowning person, he recorded the scene on his cell phone while hurling insults and taunts.
The incident occurred in the pier area between 8 and 10 in the morning when the worker noticed that a kayak had capsized in a channel. As the worker is from a private sector, the Municipality has already notified the provincial authorities to initiate an administrative investigation.
The criminal complaint aims to determine if there was a breach of the duty of care, considering that the accused prioritized his personal 'anger'—he mentioned that an umbrella had been broken—over the life of the person in the water.
Far from intervening, the man recorded the incident, uttering a damning phrase: "I'm going to leave him there until the end, so he learns." The video, which is already part of the judicial evidence, reveals that the lifeguard was in a state of agitation due to personal conflicts.
"On top of that, I'm all messed up, I'm super heated," he is heard saying while the victim remained adrift. In the audio, the accused contemptuously recounts how the kayak was drifting towards the pier: "He was floating like a buoy... there he is about to collide," reaffirming his decision not to provide immediate assistance despite his professional obligation.
According to what Argentine News Agency learned, from the local Executive branch they clarified that the person involved is not part of the Municipal Lifeguard Corps, which is governed by strict training protocols and life protection.
