Femicide in Argentina: Investigation into Daniela's Murder

The justice system is investigating the circumstances of this femicide, which adds to the alarming number of lethal violence against women and diverse individuals in Argentina.

On the last day of the year, in the San José neighborhood of Temperley (Lomas de Zamora district), Daniela, 32, was seriously wounded by a gunshot to the neck by her partner, a 30-year-old man who was later arrested by the police.

The femicide perpetrator, who refused to testify in his first interrogation, will be presented to the prosecution again. He remains detained while the investigation progresses.

In Argentina, femicides are not isolated incidents but extreme expressions of a structural gender violence that permeates different areas of the daily lives of women and feminized people.

According to various reports, a femicide occurs every few hours, a statistic that has held over time and highlights the urgency of comprehensive policies for prevention, support, and justice.

Organizations for women's and diversity rights urge to look beyond the particular case to understand how power imbalances, gender stereotypes, and lack of access to effective protection mechanisms can put people at risk, who in many cases do not report out of fear, distrust, or institutional barriers, in a context of state defunding that even denies patriarchal violence.

"This femicide underscores the need to strengthen early prevention mechanisms, expand spaces where affected people can find support without stigma, and ensure that investigations and judicial processes consider the specificities of gender-based violence, with a focus on human rights and comprehensive reparation," expressed a feminist activist from the southern Greater Buenos Aires area.

The victim remained in critical condition at the Gandulfo Hospital, where she finally died days later as a result of the injuries sustained.

The case, which was initially processed as "attempted homicide," was reclassified as "aggravated homicide by relationship" after Daniela's death, a qualification that recognizes the violence the woman suffered in the context of her partnership.

On December 31, 2025, in a home in Temperley, Daniela Sosa (32) was shot by her partner and, after several days of agony, died on Monday, January 5, at the local hospital.
