Argentina Receives First F-16 for Military Training

Defense Minister, Luis Petri, recently presented the first F-16 aircraft at the VI Air Brigade in Tandil, which will not fly and will be used exclusively for ground training of pilots and military technicians. This aircraft arrived disassembled and was assembled at the mentioned military base.

On the other hand, it has been revealed that the 24 F-16 combat aircraft acquired from Denmark to restore the supersonic capability of the Argentine Air Force will begin to arrive in the country in December of this year, a year and eight months after the signing of the agreement. The operation was closed at 300 million dollars, plus another US$ 350 million for the weapons system supplied by the United States.

"Thanks to the determination of President Javier Milei, we have regained the supersonic capability," announced Petri. However, it has been specified that these aircraft are not ready to fly and will be used to train FAA personnel on the ground.

The 24 aircraft are expected to arrive in four batches of six aircraft each, piloted by Danish and Argentine commanders in straight and level flights at cruising speed. Furthermore, it was revealed that the country does not have aircraft to refuel these supersonic aircraft in flight, so it will have to lease aircraft to ensure this capability.

Additionally, a "military secret" has been imposed since last September regarding all the remodeling work to be carried out at the VI Air Brigade in Tandil. It is expected that in the coming months the National Government will acquire aircraft to ensure in-flight refueling capability.
