Central Córdoba Coach Omar De Felippe Resigns

The coach of Central Córdoba from Santiago del Estero, Omar De Felippe, has resigned after the team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Torneo Clausura of the Professional League against Estudiantes de La Plata. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the departure of the former Independiente manager is due to a breakdown in his relationship with the club's leadership. De Felippe himself had previously exposed issues regarding debts in prize money for winning the 2024 Copa Argentina and other financial commitments. This press conference had a deep impact on the board of directors, led by José Félix Alfano, which was scheduled to meet with De Felippe this week to review his continuity for the following year. However, the coach preempted the officials and submitted his resignation due to these economic problems. Additionally, the head coach also understood that the season's objectives were not met. In the first half of the year, the team failed to advance from the group stage of the Torneo Apertura, the defense of their Copa Argentina title ended in the round of 32 against Quilmes, and they were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores, where they were defeated by Lanús in the Copa Sudamericana. With only one competition in the last six months of the year, Central Córdoba qualified for the round of 16 of the Torneo Clausura by finishing fourth in Zone A. Although they narrowly eliminated San Lorenzo in this stage, on Saturday they were defeated by Estudiantes de La Plata in Santiago del Estero, were eliminated, and ended the year in November. Thus, De Felippe concludes his tenure at Central Córdoba, which began in August 2023. From there, he coached 83 matches, winning 32, drawing 27, and losing 24. Furthermore, during his time at the 'Ferrocarril', he made history by winning the 2024 Copa Argentina, the club's only title. In the Copa Libertadores, he managed to defeat Flamengo 2-1 at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro but was surprisingly eliminated by a one-goal difference.
